Review Round Up

It’s time for another review round up! Are you interested in reading longer, more in depth reviews? I used to do those and felt people didn’t think they were necessary. Let me know what you think or if you like these batch reviews! The first line of each review was my original thought after immediately finishing the book so we are about to get HONEST up in here.

The Nickel Boys: Amazing story, gorgeous writing, a little slow and hard for me to get into. This has to be a book you are ready to read. It’s very poetic and almost lyrical because Colson is such a talented writer. It isn’t *too graphic* but it still difficult to read. However, I think it’s important to push through that uncomfortableness to understand the injustices done to these boys. It’s a work of historical fiction but it is based on a real boys’ reform school in Florida.

Catch and Kill: HOLY CRAP THIS BOOK IS INSANE AND IT’S REAL Ronan Farrow does such a good job narrating it on audio, which is how I read it. I highly recommend it because he has a talent for impressions and some of them are down right chilling. I think this book is totally and completely brave and I cannot believe that it is real, if I’m being honest. But it is real and we need to face it. It’s a particularly sensitive issue to me as an actress. I’ve seen and heard a lot go down in the industry and we need to be better about it. Believe women.

November 9: Honestly, trash. Skip it. This sounds really harsh but if you have similar reading taste to mine, which I assume you do if you’re here, I am warning you now—SKIP IT.

Let it Snow: Totally cute, a little dated, but it’s joyous nonetheless. Are we looking for hard hitting journalism when it comes to Christmas books? I think not. My favorite of the three stories is John Green’s, just because I love the Duke so much. She’s my favorite character.

My Thoughts on the movie: I was SO excited for the Let It Snow movie! It’s definitely cute but it’s totally unlike the book. So if you were waiting to watch it after reading it, you don’t need to! They exist nicely separately and shouldn’t be compared.

Let’s have a great week! What are you reading?
