Pages As Planes: Playing in the Snow

Keeping it cozy with today’s Pages As Planes and heading off to some snowy destinations! If you followed me last year, you’ll know I moved somewhere that gets A LOT of snow. And I simply LOVE the snow, but it might be because I love to lean into whatever season I’m in. When it’s still snowing in April (like it was last year 😅 ) I’ll be craving Spring and Summer. But until then…let’s get cozy!

Wild at Heart by KA Tucker

This is the second book in Wild series so you’ll definitely need to read The Simple Wild first but this book starts at Christmas and fully captures the uttercold of an Alaskan Winter!

I’m Dreaming of a Wyatt Christmas by Tiffany Schmidt

I include this book in my 2021 Holiday Reading Guide and it totally captures the snowy mountains of Vermont. It’s got all the sweet cabin vibes and an adorable YA romance.

Beartown by Fredrik Backman

If you haven’t read this book yet, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s one of my favorites of all time, though it does deal with some difficult topics of sexual assault and suicidal ideation. This book, set in a hockey town, will simply make you feel COLD. It’s so well captured.

Us Against You by Fredrik Backman

And this is Beartown’s sequel! It’s another fantastic follow up and feels even colder. I highly recommend both but be sure to check trigger warnings!

Mr. Dickens and His Carol by Samantha Silva

This is one I haven’t read but I plan on reading it this winter! I liked the movie The Man Who Invented Christmas and I think it was based on this book or it’s similar! It’s about Charles Dicken obviously and how A Christmas Carol inspired the modern Christmas celebrations.

Winter by Ali Smith

Necessary, I think? I also haven’t Ali Smith’s Seasonal Quartet but the synopsis of this one got me! A group of strangers and family meet at a fifteen bedroom home in Cornwall over Christmas. Apparently “Winter. It makes things visible. Ali Smith’s shapeshifting Winter casts a warm, wise, merry and uncompromising eye over a post-truth era in a story rooted in history and memory and with a taproot deep in the evergreens, art and love.” —Amazon. Color me intrigued!

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

One of my favorite books of all time, though it can be a bit bleak and serious. I have an infatuation with Alaska and this book is no exception. It’s about the homesteading movement in the 1970s when land was very inexpensive in Alaska and people moved from the lower 48 there. It does deal with spousal abuse, alcoholism, and traumatic injury so do be aware going in!

Booked for Christmas by Lily Menon

This is such a fun short story if you love the snowed in trope! It’s a sweet and steamy novella about a novelist and her harshest critic who end up snowed in together after a holiday party and sparks fly.

Michigan Vs. The Boys by Carrie S. Allen

Another book I simply LOVE. it’s like a YA/New Adult Beartown told from a girl’s perspective when she is fighting for her right to play hockey after her school cuts the girls’ team.

Not If I save You First by Ali Carter

I was obsessed with Ali Carter’s Gallagher Girls series as a teen. This is a heist style mystery about the President’s son and the daughter of a Secret Service agent who is stranded in the Alaskan wilderness.
