Review: The Suite Spot by Trish Doller

Thank you St. Martin’s Press, St. Martin’s Griffith for my copy! All thoughts are my own.

I read and enjoyed Float Plan by Trish Doller last year so when I saw the cover of The Suite Spot, my mountain loving, outdoorsy heart needed to read it! And I’m SO glad I did'. The only way I can describe this book is like the first day of Spring. It feels warm and joyful, with a little bit of grit and gratitude for making it through the long winter. I had a great time reading it!

Synopsis:

“One of the few bright lights in Rachel Beck’s life is her job at a Miami Beach luxury hotel—until she’s fired for something she didn’t do. As a single mom, Rachel knows she needs stability, and fast. On impulse, Rachel inquires about a position at a brewery hotel on a tiny island in Lake Erie called Kelleys Island. When she’s offered the job, not even the grumpy voice on the line can dissuade her from packing up her whole life and making the move.

What she finds on Kelleys Island is Mason, a handsome, reclusive man who knows everything about brewing beer and nothing about running a hotel. Especially one that’s barely more than foundation and studs. It’s not the job Rachel was looking for, but Mason offers her a chance to help build a hotel—and rebuild her life—from the ground up.

Trish Doller’s The Suite Spot is about taking a chance on a new life and a new love.” —NetGalley

What I Liked:

  1. The Setting—I LOVED the setting on a small remote island off the coast of Ohio in the Great Lakes. It felt very familiar and reminded me of my love for the Adirondacks. It’s also such a fun setting with the brewery. I’m not a huge beer drinker but I loved how passionate Mason was about it!

  2. The Side Characters—I needed the burst of joy and the side characters on the island were so wonderful. I loved Avery so much!

  3. The Romance—I really liked Mason and Rachel’s growth. It felt natural, with just the right amount of magic to keep the RomCom ton alive.

  4. The Definitions/Quotes at the top of every chapter—Such a fun touch and I learned some new vocabulary in other languages.

What Didn’t Work For Me:

  1. Not much—I always prefer open door in my romances but the tension and story was so good, I didn’t mind it being closed door/low steam!
