Weekly Wrap Up 5/6/22

This was a heavy week in the United States and never have a turned to books more to bring some distraction and joy to my days.

I haven’t been able to wrap my mind around the intense fear the leaked SCOTUS opinion has caused. While the reality is terrifying, it isn’t law yet. But this is why every single election from local to federal government matters. We cannot get comfortable when things go “our way”. I feel really lucky to know Ashley, who is so passionate and knowledgeable about the law and history of law in our country that she’s able to help me understand things outside of the headlines. Highly recommend a lawyer BFF. While I live in New York, a very progressive and Democratic state (which I am so grateful for) that doesn’t mean even we can get comfortable. Women’s Rights are Human Rights and we all know that it has never been about babies. If it were, every child in this country would have access universal healthcare, education, and housing.

I know I’m mostly preaching to the choir here. I’ve always been open about my views so I’ve cultivated an audience that (mostly) shares the same idea that every human being is entitled to basic human rights. I’m just tired, so so tired. But whenever I feel this way, it’s a good reminder to check my privilege. I am a cis het white woman who lives in a blue state. I will always have access to the healthcare I need. It’s time to stand up for all people who can get pregnant, LGBTQ+ youth, and Black and brown people.

Take the time to take care of yourself. And then it’s back to work.

I prioritized distraction and joy when it came to my reading this week.

Weekend Reading Plans:

Tokyo Dreaming // Island Time // Love on the Lake

Purchases of the Week:

I had the best weekend enjoying Independent Bookstore Day! I got a number of books that had been on my list for a while and it was a BEAUTIFUL day.

Got My Eye On:

I didn’t do much scrolling this week, unless it was doom scrolling 😅

Weekend Plans:

I’m heading home to New York after a wonderful 3 1/2 days in Connecticut. But sadly Nick and I are ships passing in the night! I’ll arrive late night and he’ll be heading down to the city to work on a show for the weekend. But he’ll be home Sunday and I’ll be back with my Beasie girl!

Stay well, my friends. Life is heavy and hard right now. Take care of yourselves and keep reading.
