Summer Reading Preview

My favorite time of year is almost here: summer reading! Since I started Read & Wright, i’ve loved creating seasonal reading guides because I love to read along with the weather outside. Summer Reading looks different for everyone. Personally, I love to read stories set at the beach or lake houses or in small coastal towns. I’ve also become rather fond of a good western romance set on a ranch. My full Summer Reading Guide will be out Memorial Day Weekend as it’s the unofficial start of Summer here in the US, but there are so many fantastic releases coming out in April and May, I had to get started on sharing them now!

If you want to be the first to get the 2024 Summer Reading Guide, make sure you’re signed up for my newsletter!

The books I’m sharing today I have already read and reviewed, loved and feel like so many of you will love too!

Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez

I think this is my favorite Abby cover of all time. I also loved this book with my whole heart. It’s a romance starring two characters who keep getting dumped, only for their former flame to find their soulmate after breaking up with them. Thanks to a Reddit thread meet cute, they decide to spend the Summer together to break the curse. It’s set on a lake in Minnesota and it’s PERFECT.

Funny Story by Emily Henry

Everytime Emily Henry does fake dating, I just want more and more of it. Two jilted lovers are left by their partners…who end up engaged to each other. So they launch a plan to fake date to make their former flames jealous, only to fall for each other. Set against the idyllic shores of Lake Michigan, I fell head over heels for Miles and Daphne.

Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan

Annabel Monaghan is quickly becoming a queen of Summer Reads. I think this might be her best book yet, with elements of Nora Goes of Script. It’s about a professional organizer who’s own life is in shambles, finding herself outside of motherhood. It’s utterly delightful and easily a book you can fly through in a day.

The Guncle Abroad by Steven Rowley

The sequel to The Guncle takes our characters from Palm Springs to Europe as Maise and Grant’s dad is planning an Italian wedding five years after the death of their mother.

Happy Medium by Sarah Adler

If you’re looking for a book that is totally different from your usual Summer reads, you have to look into Sarah Adler’s books. This is about a con woman who has been pretending to connect with the “other side” and communicate with her clients’ lost loved ones. A client sends her to exorcise a farm house where a handsome young man lives…only to find a ghost that she can actually talk to. It’s charming, whitty, adorable, and steamy.

Finally Fitz by Marisa Kanter

For all my fans of YA, and even if you’re not a fan of YA, this is a must read if you love NYC and the creative arts. It falls Fitz as she follows her girlfriend to NYC for a summer program at FIT only to be broken up with thanks to her obsession with social media. Fitz has to discover who she is on her own and reunites with her childhood best friend who isn’t so little anymore.

On My TBR

The Rule Book by Sarah Adams

This is the companion novel to The Cheat Sheet, another football romance! I can’t wait to read it because I love a good football romance but I also really enjoyed The Cheat Sheet!

The Truth According to Ember by Danica Nava

Releasing August 6, I saw this book on Threads and immediately requested a copy. I have loved following the author! It’s a workplace romance and from what i’ve been seeing, it is one of the first Indigenous rom coms to hit the market.

Business Casual by B.K. Borison

The final book in the Inglewild/Lovelight series and I cannot wait to be back with these characters. It’s Charlie and Nova’s story and it’s out July 16!

A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston

Ashley Poston is an autobuy author for me! This book is out June 25 and is another romance with a little whimsy and magic to it. A literature professor who lives happily ever afters ends up in a story of her own!

Triple Sec by TJ Alexander

TJ Alexander is another autobuy author for me and I am very intrigued by their first polyamorous romance! Out June 4.
